I ordered soy sauce ramen, rice, chicken karaage, potato fries, vegetable curry, strawberry soft serve ice cream, and regular soft serve ice cream. The dishes were served in a timely manner, but the karaage was freshly fried, so I had to wait a bit. It was delicious, but I thought the prices were a bit high. The soft serve ice cream was around 250-300 yen, which I thought was a bit steep for locals who may find it difficult to spend 1000 yen for lunch and another 400-500 yen for dessert. It seemed like the pricing was geared towards tourists. If they priced the meals and desserts at around 1000 yen, I think they would attract more customers. The slim and stylish young female staff and the friendly and talkative older female staff were working hard to provide good service. The food was served quickly and in decent portions, but there wasn't a standout menu item that really impressed. The menu seemed like typical dishes that you could find anywhere. However, the clean ambiance and the staff's determination made me want to support the restaurant.
I visited this restaurant by chance after changing my travel itinerary due to bad weather. It was also by chance that I was able to have a meal during their short operating hours. I had the parent and child bowl, which had a perfect creamy consistency and was very delicious. After the meal, customers can enjoy coffee or other drinks for 150 yen. I took my coffee to the second floor space and enjoyed it while looking out at the snowy mountain scenery from the station. It was a luxurious feeling to have a coffee time for about an hour in such a beautiful setting.
While checking out gourmet information in Kitaakita City on April 24, I noticed that the menu at the restaurant "Kogumatei" inside Akinai Station had completely changed... Previously, horse meat stew was a specialty, but horse meat dishes have disappeared entirely! I wondered if the chef had changed... However, my doubts were cleared up when I saw an article in the local newspaper about the former chef (now current place of employment). Nevertheless, I was still curious about the new menu after the renewal, so I decided to give it a try. Akinai Station. Even the station building had been renovated. Kogumatei used to be on the left side as you entered, but now it was on the right. Among the menu items, the "Akinai miso-flavored flavorful katsudon" (900 yen) caught my attention. Not a miso katsudon, but a katsudon with miso flavor...? That piqued my interest! It wasn't as miso-flavored as I expected but it was delicious.
