The wait at our favorite Indian restaurant in the area, Shalimar, was going to be an hour so we tried Tulsi. I wish I'd waited. I can't express how below average the food was. The problems began with the Garlic Naan which was reminiscent of a store bought variety and continued from there with the chicken tandoori and tikka masala.
What a wonderful surprise to find this great Indian restaurant. This place would be expected to be found in New York City, Toronto or London. While it would not be the best in any of these locations it is certainly the best in possibly all of New England. The Vindaloo was perfectly spiced witch most places in NE refuse to do afraid you'll send it back and if they will they just make it hot and not achieve the wonderful balance of spice and flavor they serve here. Everything we tried was delicious and the service was great and the price was reasonable considering the quality of the food. Try it you'll like it.
In reading a few reviews DH and I decided to go to the great foodie town of Kittery, ME and have dinner at Tulsi on Walker Street. We walked in and were seated right away even though we didn't have a reservation. The dining room was decorated very nicely in traditional Indian decor.DH and I tend to order and share an appetizer and entrée as we don't eat as much as we use to so... Mango Martini $12.00 strong as martinis usually are but very tastyTributary Pale Ale $8.50... DH likes any kind of beer : Cauliflower 65 $9.75Chicken Tikka Masala $19.00 chicken breast with creamy sauce very yummyTulsi green salad $11.00... very very good lots of cut up vegi's, cheese, walnuts, fruit... really good saladThis place has many vegetarian options with the influence of my DS (dear son I'm choosing a lot less red meat and a lot more vegetables lately! We will definitely return to this restaurant thanks to our server Reese and pleasant conversation with Raj the owner.
Honestly the mains are great but all you need is Chicken 65 and the fabulous cocktails. Just order two rounds of that and enjoy !
