If you are looking for perfect place for romantic dinner you shoul consider this restaurant. Nice view from terrace, delicious local food and fine wines. It is not open every day so check in advance.
I just came back from my second dinner at the Kirchenwirt Heber and – once again – I am left feeling completely happy and satisfied, and would like to finally leave this restaurant a 5-Star Rating. The location of the Kirchenwirt Heber, in Kitzeck im Sausal, means it is cropped high up on a hill, offering stunning views of the valley from the outdoor terrace (where we had dinner on a Friday night this August). The waitress is a lovely, friendly young woman and the head waiter is also friendly, polite, and helpful. The food is, seriously, to die for. Kirchenwirt Heber was the last leg of a two-week holiday in Italy where we ate in predominantly excellent Italian restaurants.. but it was, without a doubt, the Kirchenwirt that was the culinary star of the whole vacation! We ordered the Chicken Liver Paté, Pumpkin Paté, Sautéed Chicken Liver with Warm Tomato Salad, Cured Salmon and Chanterelle Mushrooms, Sautéed Calf's Liver with Baked Potatoes, Nougat Semifreddo, Chocolate Mousse, and Selection of Three Local Cheeses. Honestly- I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the service, the quality and taste of the food, the wines (which were wonderfully paired with each different course by our waitress), or the location. We love Kirchenwirt Heber and can’t wait to be back again soon!P.S. Last year we travelled through Kitzeck im Sausal a little later in September, so the menu was a little different (a lot more pumpkin dishes!); if you’re there this or next month, and you see the “Pumpkin Carpaccio” (“Kürbis-Carpaccio”) in the menu – you must try it, it was INCREDIBLE last year!
Whilst staying at Weingut Schauer in Kitzeck im Sausal (a very small town in Steirmark, Austria) we came across this lovely gem of a restaurant in the local area for a mid-week dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant of such a high standard. Despite being the only ones in the restaurant (out of peak season) the atmosphere was very welcoming, the service was excellent, the food delicious, and the views beautiful. The menu focuses mainly on local produce and between the four of us we enjoyed radish cream soup with scallops, local lamb stuffed with feta and sundried tomatoes, roast beef with potato gratin (Zweibel Rostbraten), and Saibling fillet (fish). There were lots of nice touches including small tasters before entree and after main. Great local wine list. Would highly recommend this restaurant, especially if staying in the local area.
