I was brought with my menu water. the coffee is good, but my toast was. a little undercooked, with a steak knife that was made available to the butter.
I was excited to discover Federal Coffee as a local in Melbourne, where many breakfast places have closed post-Covid. I requested a breakfast menu and was impressed by the friendly and professional service staff. I ordered eggs but was disappointed to receive a side of speck I did not want, despite being told the price would be the same without it. The eggs were cooked perfectly and served with toast, but I did not have coffee as I do not drink it. My table was provided with a water carafe and overall, I highly recommend this place. However, my only complaint is that a man took his shoes off and put his feet on the patio while eating, which was not very appealing.
Federal coffee is on the elizabeth st. side on the historic GPO building. the portico is quite long. the former GPO building is now occupied by a series of retailers and gastronomic companies, including federal coffee. some historical objects are still intact; a series of...placards explain the history of the building. federal coffee serves good coffee; if they have half an hour, they take a seat a watch the world passes.
If a restaurant has the word "coffee" in its name, one would expect their coffee to be outstanding. Unfortunately, the coffee at Federal Coffee was not up to par. Being in Melbourne, I had higher expectations.
After a long day of walking and shopping, it's a great feeling to relax and savor a cup of coffee. The seating is conveniently situated within the GPO building, giving it a truly unique atmosphere.
