Feedback gevenWe pre booked a 5 course dinner with wines. The food was fine, but nothing special. Sorbet counted as a course as well as a glass of wine, as sparkling wine was poured over the sorbet. German wines came with the dinner, not a good experience only one was drinkable. The service was very kind and professional.
During our short stay in the area of Bad Godesburg at the Rhinehotel Dreesen(previously reviewed) we decided to explore the area to find an eating experience . We were directed to Restaurant auf dem Godesburg by the local Tourist Information centre in the town. What an excellent choice! The hotel reception made the booking for us and after a very busy day exploring the area we jumped into a taxi to take us to the venue, which is located at the base of the castle which stands above the town and which affords wonderful views across the landscape. We were warmly received by the staff and having been seated, were approached by the owner, who spoke excellent English. Drinks were ordered without fuss and the eating experience started from there. We were told that the menu that evening was new from today, so we had some fun having the various dishes explained to us. There was something for everyone. We made our selections and sat back in anticipation. Service was excellent and our starters arrived. They were beautifully presented and the quality of the dishes matched the presentation. We had a soup which was served in beautifully sculptured glass bowls with ornate feet. It was simply delicious . One of our team had a selection of fish which looked divine on the plate. A photo is attached. The main course were beautifully presented and the standard of cooking could not be faulted. Rack of lamb was chosen by three of us. It was probably the best rack of lamb I have ever tasted. There was too much on the plate to eat (which was a shame because it was so good). We even ventured into having a sweet which was creme brule. Again, absolutely superb. There was absolutely no pressure on having to leave the restaurant and when the time came to leave, the staff organised a taxi for us to take us back to our hotel, absolutely full to the brim. We all agreed that it had been an excellent choice and good value for money. Simply put. A meal to savour!
One of my last evening in Bonn, we were invited to a function at Godesberg Castle. We had to climb a steep slope along the walls of the castle to get into a court. The restaurant has an incredible and almost panoramic view of the city and valley at night it was quite a spectacle. The dining room had the super high ceiling expected of a rock walled castle lounge. The canapees served were of the highest quality. I promised myself if I travel back to Bonn in the future to try the restaurant during the day. Definitely a high class and romantic venue for a meal.
Our last night and this was a special place to come for it. The view is amazing. Good value for such a high class restaurant. My friend and I shared a beetroot carpaccio to start, our husbands had carrot and ginger soup, served in large glass bowls. Dorado served on a ratatouille style vegetables with gnocchi for mains. Beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. A nice bottle of local red wine went very well. A wonderful, unforgettable place that we would very much like to return to one day.
Now yes, a visit to godesburg to have a cappuccino there. the restaurant decorated in white, today not designed for the touri, but a modern society. the godesburg was then unfortunately still too, so that I did not get into the tower. next visit I hope for better weather and more happiness.
