So if you are a Die-Hard fan of this delicious dish, take things on a notch and tease your taste buds a little more with the story that makes Biryani so extraordinary. Although it seems to be a court in India, in reality the court quite far away. Biryani comes from the Persian word Birian, that is, “fried before cooking” and Birinj, the Persian word for rice. While there are several theories about how biryani made his way to India, it is generally accepted that it originates in West Asia. One legend has that the Turk-Mongol conqueror, Timur, brought the forerunner with him when he arrived at the borders of India in 1398. Believe to be the war campaign that has died of Timur's army, an earthly pot of rice, spices and whatever meat was available would be buried in a hot pit before they finally dug and served the warriors. Another legend has that the court was brought to the southern Malabar coast of India by Arab traders who were there often. There are records of a rice dish called Oon Soru in Tamil literature already in 2 A.D. Oon Soru was said from rice, ghee, meat, turmeric, coriander, pepper and laurel leaf, and was used to feed military warriors.
