Malaya - Kurunjang

Not too sure if it is authentic, but everything served on the table was delish! Highly recommend the prawn with oatmeal, nasi lemak, and their special seafood laksa. Definitely will come back when I crave for Malaysian food. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$20–40

True to its name, this is great Malaysian food and good value too. It seems to have the same kitchen as the seafood focused Pacific House Richmond. In my experience, you can 't go wrong with anything on the menu, including classics like nasi lemak and laksa. I also never go to Malaya without having the iced teh tarik. Heads up on the fish head soup though it 's very bony (of course) and potentially hard work if you don 't know what you 're doing. If you 're ordering the curry version, the seafood laksa is similar but without the testing 'fish head ' experience. The service can range in warmth, but peaks at incredibly friendly. Malaya is easily one of my current favourite restaurants on Victoria Street. Kid friendliness: There 's nothing special for kids but they 're warmly welcomed.

Came with a group of 12 and food was served promptly and quality was pretty good overall. Highly recommend the Combination fried rice noodles with creamy egg sauce, fried calamari and Mayaya spicy fried chicken. An understated place which serves pretty good Malaysian hawker fare. Dishes are pretty decent but there are hits and misses. Still a place to have comfort food in a relaxed and not overly crowded place versus the Vietnamese restaurants on Victoria Street. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
