We moved back to Mentone 15 months ago and the Royal Oak is just around the corner. We come here almost weekly as the meals are consistently excellent and the service warm and welcoming. As seniors, the meals are of a generous size with the vegetables well-cooked and varied. We usually have the roast beef or pork (thick slices), fish and chips or lamb rissoles. When we also have soup it's always hot and tasty. For many years we went to Highways at Sandown (Melbourne Racing Club). The décor here may not be as stylish but who cares if the food is ten times better! We've eaten at many top restaurants and clubs over forty years (even run our own at one stage), so we feel qualified to make judgements. For great home-style cooking we'll certainly frequent the Royal Oak as often as possible.
Value. Front bar $10 meals, all the time can't complain about that. They have about 12 different options. The Parma was great, good size. The rump steak was also good value.<br/ <br/ There is also a bistro inside with a larger menu, kids menu and desserts.
