Great breakfast location so four stars for Alondras Mexican Restaurant in La Vernia TX. Located on the south west side of town. Very tasty fair. On a July 2019 morning visit had the huevos rancheros with ranchero sauce on the side and also had the huevo a la Mexicana. Both were great tasting and cooked to order perfectly. The ranchero sauce was very good and something I’ll go back for. The service staff did everything right, making sure our order was taken in a timely manner and getting drinks and refills as needed without having to ask. They were very attentive during our visit. The location is easy to get to and getting inside has easy access. The locals that were there during our visit made for some good people watching and all were friendly. This is a family friendly place and we saw several. Alondras Mexican Restaurant’s menu was clear and easy to read and had a lot of options for all meal times offered. They have a drive through that was busy the whole time we were there. Hours are generally 6am to 3pm daily and closed on Friday (from the google search – did not catch this detail while there). Only less than great thing was the men's restroom could of used some attention but was manageable. If you make it to La Vernia and are looking for a better than average local meal, this is one of the places I’d keep on the list.
If I could give this place a negative five stars, I would. My family and I used to love this restaurant, but since the new ownership took over, I am utterly appalled by the decline in quality. The food now seems cheap and poorly prepared. My child got sick after having the carne guisada tacos, which were so greasy they were nearly inedible. What happened to what was once the best Mexican restaurant in our little town? Now, if we want good breakfast tacos, we have to travel to San Antonio or settle for low-quality alternatives. Our small community used to provide a sense of familiarity, and everyone knew each other, but it's disheartening to watch a beloved place fall apart like this. It feels like a betrayal to those who still hope for decent food, instead of generic meals and leftovers. I know for a fact that they’re serving powdered beans, and I learned this from a friend who used to work as a waiter until he was fired for speaking out about the complaints and the new owner’s lack of quality control. What was once the best breakfast in La Vernia has become a running joke due to its terrible state. The eggs and dried beans are served with the cheapest cheese, and it’s clear they’re using ingredients from several days ago. The restaurant was once well-regarded and didn't have issues with pests, but now I’ve even seen mice in the kitchen. There’s a reason the previous owner won’t eat here anymore; he knows the new management has ruined his menu with subpar food. Even the staff refuse to eat what they’re serving, which should speak volumes about the state of the kitchen. I genuinely worry about anyone who decides to eat here. I know of three people who ended up in the hospital after dining here. Please avoid this place unless you want to risk getting sick. If you care about your health, it’s best to look elsewhere.
The Migas plate is one of the standout items on the menu. The prices are reasonable, and the service is excellent.
The food is consistently outstanding! The prices are fantastic, and the staff is exceptional! My family and I absolutely love this restaurant!!! Food - 5 Service - 5 Price - 5
