O Fine Japanese Cuisine - Laguna Beach

I 've been coming here for lunch for over 7 years. Service is always attentive, and it 's a very comfortable atmosphere! The restaurant is on the smaller side but nicely decorated. The lunch special has increased by $10 and the sushi is now much smaller (hence the 4 stars) but the lunch comes with hot miso soup, a fresh crisp salad with a sweet rice vinaigrette, chef 's choice of 7pc sushi platter, a California roll (also much smaller) and my favorites which brings me back here every single time, it 's their Japanese burrito and the crispy rice with spicy tuna, both are melt in your mouth deliciousness with a touch of heat. If you 're hungry for something sweet and spicy, the crispy rice will make your mouth happy.

First time here. Very disappointed. $25-$30 rolls, most of them served with just ponzu sauce, none of the rolls were out of the ordinary or were impressive to me. We got the BTSD, Sexy Laguna(small roll with barely any caviar) and sashimi roll. Sashimi roll was the best out of these. Got the sashimi sampler, very thinly sliced pieces for $53. Again, nothing really special outside of the scallop peach pairing which I liked. Miso Seabass was decent, just had a very strange presentation, served on a skillet with a bunch of sliced(and almost raw) onions. Cheap presentation for a very good piece of fish. Sashimi sampler, Seabass, three rolls, glass of wine and soda came out after tip to $230. The quality, creativity, portion and presentations don't match your current prices. My impressions are the menu hasn't progressed or improved in a very long time. Really nothing special for a reason to go to this restaurant over Seabutter or even starfish which is next door.

Very good sushi. The tuna collar is a must try. Service was good for a Friday night. The house saki was neutral, smooth and not too sweet. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

THEIR SPICY TUNA ROLL- how do they jam so much flavor in? The baked scallop roll is also phenomenal! We always pick up from here but their dining area is very nice
