Fire Oak - Lake Charles

I made reservations for tonight to take my husband out for a nice evening, and we were impressed with the excellent service provided by Slick! I asked him to surprise me with a rum drink, and he did an outstanding job. He even showed me the bottle when I inquired about the rum, which was very impressive. Our meal (beet salad, fried cheese, and filet with asparagus) was delicious and each bite was a unique culinary experience. We will definitely be coming back soon. This restaurant should be full on a Friday night! Thank you, Slick!

HIDDEN GEM! Last night my husband and I went to Fire Oak on Nelson Rd. We got there around 6:00. It was Tapas Tuesday (1/2 price small plates . I ordered an iced tea and my husband ordered a glass of wine. We were a little apprehensive because there was only one other table of customers and so we thought this would be a one and done visit to this restaurant. We were very mistaken! What a hidden gem!! We ordered the Seared Duck, Brussel Sprouts and Hummus small plates. All I can say is WOW!!! The food was phenomenal! I 'm shocked that this place is not packed every night! AMAZING FOOD!! The only negative is that the wine was $13 a glass. That 's too expensive for a glass of house wine. Our server was so pleasant and the bartender was friendly too! We will be back soon!! It 's a little off the beaten track, but well worth the drive even if you don 't live in South Lake Charles! (We live north of Moss Bluff, so it was quite a drive for us. Go try it! You will be happy you did!

I LOVE all of the food I have tried here: Caprese, hamburger with fries, and filet mignon with asparagus. I actually thought the burger was better than everything which is nearly impossible, since everything was so great! I can't wait to go back tonight.

It is more of a brunch place for me, the dinner menu isn’t as good as brunch in my opinion. Having said that the tomahawk steak was delicious and cooked perfectly and served with an amazing butter sauce. My Husband and I tried this place while we were in town. It's an elegant little spot in a great part of town. Upon arrival, we seated ourselves and waited 8 min before the bartender came to our table with water and informed us he was short staffed. I informed him we were patient and understood. All the tables were filled except for 2 and a few seats at the bar were open. It's a small place. After a few minutes we realized there were no waiters or waitresses to serve which was fine. Bartender came back to the table to bring our drinks and to take our order by memory I may add. After taking our order he headed over to a table to check on someone while another family came in and was seated. Another gentleman was helping drop food and take orders. Needless to say the table after us was served several dishes before we even received our first plate, which came out 30 min after we ordered. I get they had no staff and he was busy rocking out drinks etc. After he gave us drinks and took our order we never saw him again. No refills, No do you need anything, never touched our table. Which would have been fine if we didn't watch him touch every table at least once the whole hour we were there. My husband and I shared an appetizer, a salad, and a fish dish. 3 plates and it took an hour. Which was fine because the food was delicious. After the meal, I had to Flag down the other gentleman to get our ticket. Bartender guy brought it over and apologize for not coming to our table the entire hour we were there. Other guy didn't check on us as well, but both of them touched every other table occupied in this restaurant. I tipped well even though we got no service and no updates on our food with out having to ask. I gave this place 4 Stars because it's quant and the food was absolutely fabulous. The service wasn't terrible just non Existent. I wouldn't have been so perturbed about the short staff if we didn't witness him check every other table in the place other than ours. Would we eat here again?? Not sure. But the food was really good.
