The list time I went with my partner and she was shocked that the staff charged us £2.50 for a...glass of tap water (not mineral water could be a mistake though)! But the service and food is always nice, close to car park, bus stop and never very busy.
This was quite a disappointing experience. My ex-partner and a friend of ours wanted to have some Asian food. Little did they know they 'd get so much more than they bargained for. It was late, fair enough, but they could have just turned us down...claiming the kitchen was closed. Instead, they accepted to serve us only if we managed to eat in 50 '... By minute 47 of a fusion cuisine of indistinct flavour or provenance, even if it claimed to be 'Thai, ' hence the name of the eatery, they started moving the tables back and folding up the chairs. This was a restaurant/disco where the scents of fried squid and body odour married and lingered until the early hours of the morning. Poor food, poor service. No value for money.
Went here for a meal with friends. Although it was not great thai food it was very nice and the staff were very friendly and attentive. It would not take much for them to raise their game by haven a tidy up around the resteraunt....Simple things like to lock broken on the toilet door, junk living around by the toilet area, scratched and old tables. The mixed starter was very good, fresh and tasted good with a nice selection. The main just lacked something, with a watery sauce under the food rather than the glazed you would expect. The value was good at £75 for a meal for 3, starters and main, with 6 beers.
I just went to this place tonight and had a great masaman and my wife a lovely red curry. I was shocked to see the bad reviews this place has had before as it was a great little place with very tasty food for what...was a cheap price. £30 with 2 mains and 2 starters. I think it is better than the Lemongrass where you don't feel like you can sit down and relax as they have benches. Well the Thai Orchid was a bit of a surprise as I wasn't expecting much, but it is a really good basic Thai. P.S. The Thai beef salad was was pretty damn good for all of £4.50!! :
I went here for takeout, the service was good, the atmosphere seemed nice while we were waiting for our food to be cooked (plenty of people around, nice looking cocktails, everything clean etc). The food was fine, but certainly not the best thai I've had,...and considering all the options on Clapham High Street I probably wouldn't choose to go back here. It was over priced for the quality of the food- about £12 pp without drinks (and there's a 10% service charge if you sit and eat there). One benefit is they deliver without charge within 2 miles- if you're looking for something easy (though still not cheap).
