There were 3 kids in the back, 1 kid up front doing everything, and a assistant manager with pink hair who clocked out with one of the kids. Who when I got there was helping ring up a lady with a bunch of sandwiches. Stood there waiting for a sandwich for about half an hour while one kid named Ben, a 15 year old, did all the work. He himself seemed distraught and was distracted getting mayo off the counter with a knife after doing the order in front of me which had like 5 sandwiches. Which was annoying, but less annoying than seeing a bunch of kids and a 'assistant manager ' doing nothing while I 'm trying to get my dinner on shift at work. The only thing the assistant manager really did that whole time was tell me he 'll be right with you , and then get herself some soda and leave the store, after standing around talking to the kids in back for a while. The 15 year old that was left to run the business alone while everyone else goofed off, Ben, made excuses for her to me when I politely mentioned it. Well she was off the clock , had to explain to him that this isn 't legal to do, and risks the business getting a massive fine if she is that negligent. And she can simply clock in. 2 whole minutes of work won 't make a day insufferable. Might make a happy customer instead of losing you business. Well she wasn 't supposed to work today , well when I was managing and I had people waiting in line I would clock in and help. Or, with half a dozen workers in the store, I would ask one of them. If you cannot work or delegate, you do not deserve a management position. Working and delegating when you are needed to, is literally what managers are for. I tipped the kid $5 and told him that he should be managing her if he is doing her work, to which he exclaimed he is only 15. I told him if that 's true it just makes her look that much worse. It wasn 't that late at night, roughly 7 or so, and bad customer service is bad customer service. There is no excuse, esp when overstaffed. 4-5 people in store is double what the major cities run for employees at night. I managed subways. She would have been fired on the spot. Even her behavior made me feel like she had disdain for me simply being a customer. Employees like her lose you business. Employees like Ben gain you business, even if he is a bit distracted he tries his best. After having met the owners themselves the previous night, I am surprised they have someone so recklessly unhelpful as their assistant manager. Likely if I see her working, I 'll just pull back out and eat elsewhere. If I see the manager working, I 'll likely go in and talk to him about it. It wad pretty ridiculous.
