My wife and I wanted to try out a new restaurant and her friend actually reccomended this place saying it was under new ownership. When we arrived we were greeted by the owners who sat us and gave us our menu. The menu is vastly different than what my wife saw on this site but the prices were better and the selection was much simpler. The server (John? said that the Shecrab soup was highly liked by other guest so we started out our meal with two cups of that. My wife had a glass of Pinot Noir which she said she loved and I just had some unsweet tea which was typical. When our soup arrived, a little ramikin with sherry accompanied it which i added to the soup and it was delicious. My wife slurped up her soup too and the waiter checked on us and gave us time to decide our meal. Well we thought there was no way anything could top that starter so we weren't sure we'd risk ordering. I was still hungry though and ordered the Ribeye steak (Decently priced compared to other places and Shell ordered Ceasar salad with fried oysters. While we waited for our meal; probably ten minutes, the owner Carol spoke with us about the tavern and offered for us to see the upstairs and the basement. He told us the history of the place as we walked with him on a little tour of the building. It was really neat honestly and Shelly loved it. Carol told us the rooms were able to rented out and lets just Shelly and I will be back for that! The basement was really cool it had a dirt floor behind a door and the owner said that george washingtons soldiers once ate there. It was humbling to be in a place that had that much history to be honest. Well when we returned to our table our food was ready for us so we dug right in. I did have to request a steak knife but one of the other owners brought it out promptly. This steak was like butter it was so good! I did not want to stop eating it ever! Shelly said her oysters were fried perfectly and the ceasar was good too. We were stuffed by the end of the meal. The owners wife Jo came out of the kitchen and greeted us with a smile as I was finishing my steak and my wife was still chowing down. She mentioned that they offered homemade desserts but we were too stuffed to try them. Shelly decided we would take two mini key lime pies home with us though. Our bill was a decent price and for the whole experience it was quite a deal. The pies were the best midnight snack too that I decided I needed to write a review for this place. Needless to say we will be back, the food was amazing and the owners were so hospitable.
We have eaten here 4 times over the years and watched it sadly get worse..until NOW. Food is excellent. Staff is spartan, and reservations get lost, but as long as they keep the cook they have a shot. Wife and I had the chicken alfredo on Valentines day. it was excellent, and as a special treat the salad was well done as well. lots of thought and prep went into something simple but an item that sets the tone for the rest of the evening. WELL DONE Thanks and we will be back.
The food was amazing it,everything was great! The hush puppies were amazing, the crab cake blt(waterman's blt) was an original and awesome sandwich. Even sampled the she-crab soup and ordered a bowl immediately! In conclusion the food is amazing and the service was excellent!
The Lancaster Tavern is an experience like no other, from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere is enchanting, bringing one back to a classical time era. It actually has a lot of historical significance. We had originally planned on staying one night- but we couldn’t resist from extending our visit. We were welcomed with warm greetings, and not long after, a warm lunch. My significant other had an exceptional crab soup, while I enjoyed some hot wings. The layout was unique- it had a fine dining area, but also a space in a secluded area for drinks. I absolutely loved our room we stayed in for the two nights. The designs and layout were very exquisite, as well as being very spacious. There was plenty of space in the closet and drawers, and they offered an adequate amount of towels and toiletries. The large bath tub was heavenly, so be sure to find a time in your visit for some of that relaxation. Let’s not forget the delicious breakfast menu choices you may choose from after a rejuvenating evening. The Tavern is definitely a must for couples to escape to.
