Two minutes later, I was told they were closed. my wife and I parked, went in and ordered. the woman who took our order was so unpleasant that my wife told her she was rude and asked why she told the people that she was closed. she closed at 8 and that was full.
Its not much to look at from the outside, but come inside for a treat. Start with home made tortillas! The food is good Mexican/New Mexican food. Only down thing is at the end of meal you have to wait forever for your check. But that seems endemic of all Mexican food places in town.
This place was colorful and looked fun. With all the hype of their constant ads on Tv and line at the drive up, I was so disappointed in the food quality. HUGE let down. The meat was bland and over cooked. The Charro beans where under cooked, old and grainy as if they were not cleaned. Quesadilla with huge pieces of chicken. The Gorditas were also underwhelming. Thumbs down
Restaurant is an old jack in the box and looks it. but service well and eat very well. I usually drive. burritos grandios, but surprised, in eat and find full service restaurant inside. the menu will come back and explore completely.
2014 RE-EVALUATION: POPULAR WITH MEXICAN/HISPANIC WORKINGMEN AND FAMILIES BUT REALLY A MIXED BAG. This restaurant is rated number THIRTY-FIVE (35th) on the 2017 Mr. Sensitive list of the best Mexican food restaurants in this town. IT IS NOT A PLACE FOR EVERYONE.In October 2014 Mr. Sensitive returned to Burritos Victoria to re-evaluate this restaurant. Here's how it all went down: The ambiance is a mixed bag. There are a number of bar stools at a counter where people were placing takeout orders. These stools have an unsightly design of the lower half of out-of-shape female bodies in panties or bathing suits or something as seen from behind. I imaging that the owners of this establishment think this is cute It is not. (See the photo on the Yelp site. Just don't pay any attention to the insipid reviews found there The remainder of the restaurant has some nice tables and booths in an open area and some in a closed-in sort of claustrophobic area. The central area of the restaurant is not bad, but the overall effect is not thrilling. Without the bar stools I would rate the ambiance a C+ to B- but with them this place garners a C-. Those stools are really quite pathetic. The service was efficiently performed by young women whose first language seems to be Spanish. I found them to be not too enthusiastic about their jobs and not in any way ebullient or pleasant. While they were not unpleasant, and I don't want to leave that impression, no attempt was made to provide the customer (me or anyone else that I could see) with a pleasant dining experience. It's as if they don't know that that is part of the job description???? This place has morphed into a full-serve restaurant, but the owners really need to sharpen up the service. For a full-serve restaurant the service comes across as uninterested and sort of just going through the motions. Maybe the tips are not too good here and, consequently, the young women are not very invested in their jobs??? You seat yourself and they will bring out a rather extensive menu. My food was prepared fairly quickly....no complaints on that end of it. Overall, rate the service at Burritos Victoria about a C+. The owners seem to be interested only in providing some medium quality food at low to medium prices for customers who could care less about a pleasant or quality dining experience. So, do not expect that here. (C- ambiance and C to C+ service is what you'll get Today I sampled their sirloin or carne asada tacos with beans and rice and a side gordita with red chile con carne. The gorditas sell for $1.99. I saw some Mexican workingmen order two for $4.00....that is all they had for lunch. It didn't look like there were a lot of big spenders in there this afternoon. When I ordered they asked me is I wanted charro beans and I said, yes I assumed that they would replace the refried beans that came with the tacos. But, no. I still received the refried beans on my plate along with a little bowl of whole beans in a sauce with some slices of little hotdogs and what appeared to be a little tripe. There was no additional charge for these whole beans in the bowl. Actually, the beanies and wienies were pretty good. Rate them a solid B. The rice and refried beans were typical....rate them a C+. What they call Gorditas Harina' are not your typical gorditas; they come in a thick flour tortilla that has a slit in it to open it up. (Really strange for gorditas....but I guess they don't have to fry them that way The chile meat with a little potato filling was fairly good.....rate it a B, but the gordita as a whole was a little underwhelming. Rate it a C+ to a B-. The gorditas that I saw full of carne asada looked good however and appeared to be a really good deal for $1.99. That must be the attraction this place holds for a lot of people. The sirloin tacos came wrapped in foil. And....THERE WERE ONLY TWO OF THEM! Most places serve three tacos on their taco plates. For $9.49 I would expect three tacos. EACH LITTLE CORN TORTILLA HAD ONLY SOME THIN SLICES OF STEAK....NOTHING MORE! WOW! I noticed a Yelp reviewer said she went thru the drive in and found her tacos to be meat only' also. Not having the opportunity to hit the salsa bar for something additional....she was out of luck. I find this just amazing....hard to believe. What are these people thinking? They surely lost that customer! I had to make a trip back up to the slasa bar to get some pico de gallo to put on the tacos. THIS WAS A RATHER PATHETIC PRESENTATION IF EVER THERE WAS ONE. The saving grace was that the meat was tender and really seasoned well; it was very tasty. On taste alone I would rate this meat an A-. But, these tacos as a whole rate a B-. SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT WAS, IN THE END, RATHER SAD. It says something about the nature of this place. The owners just don't have it in them to take their restaurant to the next level......they are satisfied with what they have achieved, i.e., a place that serves a significant number of people who spend little and get little quality in return. And to think, if I would have had three tacos on that plate they probably would have charged me $12.00??? Wow again! And these were very small tacos. In the final analysis, rate the overall dining experience at Burritos Victoria between THREE-AND-A- QUARTER AND THREE-AND-A-HALF STARS......meaning slightly above your average fast food joint or Taco Bell. If you are looking for some ambiance or service with a smile, this isn't your place. If you are after Mexican food that offers any kind of presentation or food of quality look somewhere else. If you want a quick low budget meal that comes with a certain type of cultural experience' this spot is available.
