Whether you're coming from the Strip or Henderson, it's just a quick drive from the Russell exit off the 215. The restaurant is small and cozy, featuring a lively sushi bar at the back, while long communal tables occupy the center for larger groups. Cozy booths line the north and south walls, each enclosed on three sides for privacy and safety, especially during these pandemic times. The decor, adorned with Japanese art, transports you straight to Tokyo; the pieces displayed on the walls and in each booth are of museum quality! A TV plays an Asian MTV-style channel, and the music is trendy and upbeat. The only lyrics I recognized during my entire meal were "sugar-free" — a great track that adds a Gen Z touch to the atmosphere. Now, let's talk about the food, which is simply amazing and budget-friendly. After spending three weeks in Chiba and Okinawa, I've developed a taste for authentic Japanese cuisine, and Hokaido did not disappoint. Their lunch menu is a steal; for just $9.95, you can enjoy a salmon teriyaki lunch box that includes a steaming bowl of miso soup, a crisp green salad with an Asian dressing, four California rolls, and a small deboned salmon drizzled in teriyaki sauce. For an additional $2, you can add another item to your order. I couldn't resist adding chicken katsu — a fried chicken cutlet served with a sweet, ketchup-like sauce — because it's a staple on local menus in Japan, and I've missed it! In 2022, where can you find a deal like this? Lunch is served from 11 AM to 3 PM, and they also offer an impressive selection of udon dishes.
Every time I visit this restaurant, I find myself loving it more than before. The quality of the food and the friendly service from the staff truly stand out. You can really see the chefs' passion in the delicious and beautifully presented sushi they create. Without a doubt, this is the BEST sushi place I have ever been to. At this point, I don't even consider going anywhere else because nothing else matches up. I’m a customer for life. Thank you, everyone!
The wait time was reasonable for four rolls, but the flavor and freshness made it all worthwhile. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the music was great. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
