Housed in the historic Richie's Mill it has unparalleled views of the Tamar and a very warm and convivial energy. The service is outstanding, true hospitality pedigree here. The food incorporates Tasmanian ingredients with a fusion twist. My favourite time to go is lunch to enjoy the river views but special occasion dinners are also a must. The winelist is spectacular and has a broad range of Tassie delights plus some rarer numbers from further abroad. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Have had many great meals around Tassie but none better than Stillwater. We had the 3 course dinner and everything left us so impressed wallaby was cooked to perfection, dish accompaniments were really interesting (highly recommend the octopus udon! , beer wine list was great, and the service was exceptional. Will be returning next time we're in Launceston
Bit of a mixed bag for our Saturday lunch great food and exceptional wine by the glass options in the usual great location made for a pleasing experience overall. However service was off we arrived at 1.50pm for our 2pm booking. after no greeting or welcome I caught the eye of a young male server. he advised there was no booking in our name but he could seat us anyway. I had the conformation and follow up emails so it was strange it did not appear to appear in their system. the same guy then replaced our still water with a sparkling and having advised he would let me know what type of wallaby I was eating and the supplier was never seen again. Similarly the young dark haired waitress twice forgot to come back with the extra napkin and water we had requested. Each of these things by themself are obviously minor yet half a dozen such instances over our lunch created a diminished experience. As we were leaving we had a great chat with Josh and then the bespectacled blonde haired lady over Ochota Barrel wines.... which made the lack of connection and attentiveness from the rest of the team all the more conspicuous. will be back for sure, probably just an off day re service
Our entree was served backwards by a non attentive completely forgettable young waitress , a lovely platter of seafood bites , abalone and truffles, prawns with strawberries, but I feel we were disregarded my wife was upset by how rare my duck was and her venison was blue and tough , rather than being actually cooked. What should of been a dining highlight of my life instead left me very disappointed. Granted this was 15years ago and yes in response you did have such things on the menu. One of the worst dining experiences ever. Especially with the cost. Such an experience should of been memorable in a better way.We did not have dessert !Pike family of St Helens.
Great food and service. really enjoyed the kingfish tetare and papadelle, very recommend both! also the wallaby wings that were interesting. was quiet on a weekday lunch, but we booked anyway as I imagine they can be busy.
