Stopped in for our first visit tonight. Very disappointed. We both had the seafood “platter” which came out in two small baskets. The oysters, and we were warned by the server, come prefrozen. They were awful. No bigger than large peanut ? in the shell. I can’t even describe the taste really. The fries were undercooked. The shrimp were so spicy your tongue and lips caught aflame. Good taste but too hot (they must’ve soaked too long idk); the stuffed crab had zero flavor and I can only assume they come prefrozen too bc they were awful. We paid $25.99 each. Drove 40mins one way to try them out. Thank goodness the coleslaw and crackers were good. The fish and hush puppies were “ok” but have had better. Very disappointed and won’t ever go back. $61 down the drain for sure.Owner lashed out after my FB review and then blocked me. I had a right to leave a review and she has the right to comment back and block. At the end of the day, it’s a no go for me.
The food at this restaurant was nothing special. It seemed like I could have gone to Walmart and bought everything I ordered off the shelf in boxes or frozen. The Coke came from a can and the Orida French fries were served cold. The hush puppies were doughy on the inside, despite the waitress claiming they were homemade. I felt like $40 was too high a price to pay for the mediocre food I received.
While passing through, my wife and I noticed the sign for this restaurant on Highway 84 and decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst seafood restaurant we've ever been to. The oysters and catfish were pre-breaded and tasted unpleasant. The food wasn't cooked to our liking, and the waitresses were too preoccupied with their cell phones and chatting to properly attend to customers. Aside from the cole slaw, everything else was terrible. Save your money and avoid this place at all costs.
Be Optimistic before choosing Skepticism! I was honestly afraid to go inside once my husband found where this restaurant was located. I’m sure the owners saw the surprise on my face when we entered and were asked “are you all eating with us today?” I responded, “we are trying”. Why did I say this? Because we often say, “don’t judge a book by its cover” while judging it. I’m so glad that we didn’t turn around and leave. The hosts were kind, friendly, welcoming, and efficient. My husband couldn’t remember who suggested that we eat here, but we were glad that we did. The food was amazing and seasoned well. To anyone looking for a place of comfort and relaxation to dine, this is it. Many future blessings to you all at “The Tackle Box”.
