There's a bar upstairs that is decently priced and depending on the bartender you can get a variety of cocktails. The coffee itself is simple, but steady. There's a patio outside with plenty of room to sit on during the warm months. The place to go if you want a feel for the local downtown scene.
We like to end a heavy meal with espresso and trying new spots in Lawrence is a must. At last Henry's. No pristine counter tops with fancy cases of pastries. Just exposed wood and brick and a beautiful huge espresso machine. There is food in a case and scattered on top of the counters. Various pastries, etc. they seem to offer milk alternatives and your traditional caffeinated drinks. Prices are low and they use PTs beans. Great service and coffee. Quiet place. I believe the bar is above. Smells like an old library inside. Made me want to stay forever.
Sure enough good find here now having large mocha frappe, which is a medium size and ok drink. I've had lots others better. Cool setting here tho.
Know that this rating is for the bar area only . . . . Up the creaky, tiny staircase I go, cuz a friend told me that hidden at the top of this staircase is Henry's bar; an intimate space that looks like a throwback to the 1960's with its toadstool like chairs and window seats. The music is good and they have daily drink specials. Check out their sangria as it's quite good and if mixed drinks are your thing- they are poured with a strong hand. There's no table service here so head to the bar at the top of the stairs, grab a drink and find a table. Oh- and watch your step. When it gets busy, that step at the top of the stairs is easy to miss in the dark!
A coffeeshop below and a bar upstairs? Yep, that 's pretty much all I need to love Henry 's. Luckily so many other aspects of this place go above and beyond for me that it ranks in as a top Lawrence bar in a city filled with great nightlife spots. First things first, you can actually hold a conversation in this sultry upstairs bar. It 's almost like someone 's really cool loft apartment that they 're holding a nice get together at. It 's welcoming, and completely conducive to groups assuming that it 's not TOO packed. The back patio has potential to be a fun breath of fresh air, but alas the smokers dominate back here and I 'd just as soon avoid it. We had a going away party here in college and the staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful throughout everything. I was worried the space would be too small but they were on it. It 's a great after hours kind of bar where you go to continue a date, continue a conversation, or relax and unwind. You 're not going to find dancing and a club vibe in the slightest. PS: They throw some epic New Year 's Eve bashes, but you do have to know some people to get into their private events.
