The new owner finances both the renovation and the expansion that the existing... Dining area significantly enlarged and bar room for typical barracks added. I like the fish and chips that are undoubtedly the best in the area and are best available in British coastal areas. My wife had the excellent ribs but needed a bag to bring half of the home I enjoyed the next day. My son went for the burger with onion rings and there was a lot of choice for my daughter who is vegan. Menu for all pallets, good Cornish caught beer, Guinness and a large wine list. If you live within 50K, it is a must and if you are worth a distraction on holiday.
Finally real fish carvings, ie fish cooked in dough at a very reasonable price, also knickerbocker fame as dessert and do not treat surprisingly as in the possession of English people. English beer too. Efficient service (the waitress is bilingual). Clean. You can eat. Open for lunch and dinner. Easy to park. Better to book.
We ate here 3 or four times during our one week stay in Le Lude. My husband is a Brit and was happy to find somewhere that poured a decent pint of Guinness. We had a great time talking with Lulu and Amanda and appreciated...their insights into the countryside (we were house-hunting). Food was very good, service was excellent, and we very much enjoyed our time there.
The whole experience was wonderful. I brought my French friend Catherine to the restaurant as a surprise. She loves English fish and chips and I knew that would be on the menu. We were not disappointed. I had salmon steak on a risotto base which...was fabulous. We both had Apple crumble and custard. All the food was fantastic and we ate every morsel. The service was excellent. We have promised ourselves that we shall come back again soon. thank you Lulu and Amanda.
The Rose and Crown comes as a surprise in the heart of the small town of La Lude. The food here is excellent. We were there for lunch. The English hostess, Lulu, is charming and very welcoming. She speaks fluent French. Some nice beers on...tap and wines to accompany your food followed by really hot coffee. This is a highly recommended place to eat with indoor and outside seating. The Lude Château is nearby which is well worth visiting.
