The best thing, in my opinion at least, is the Gringo (chicken) tacos; they are so fresh and flavourful l, and their signature birdies sauce is to die for! Definitely a good place in Leamington for a filling meal.
Longest wait of my life for the tiniest piece of perch and some super soggy fries. Definitely not what I expected from the reviews. Also, lots of annoyed patrons due to unrealistic wait times...
Just like everyone else, my standards drop as soon as I leave the city on a road trip. Tim 's coffee is on constant radar and tastes fantastic mainly because that 's all you can find. Since I had not done my homework on Yelp, Birdie 's Perch came to my attention when chatting with a helpful young woman working at a vegetable stand on the highway nearby. She said, you know, the bus! Oh yeah, that place. Easy to spot. It was hot out so we didn 't sit in the bus, and instead at the little patio out front under the umbrellas. There is also a neat area with misters that you can enjoy if the temps go even hotter, which they can do in this part of the world. We had tacos and I had a fish poor boy and everything popped with flavour, freshness and was crunchy and perfectly prepared. We didn 't wait long for our order either. It 's worth the drive to Point Pelee National Park, and visiting Birdie 's Perch too!
Birdie's is worth a trip out to the middle of nowhere (especially if that same trip includes a winery tour and beach stop). My daughter's large poutine was easily enough to feed 3-4 people, and is a great meal option for those who aren't into fish. They also have some vegetarian options, including the black bean burrito that my little brother ordered. He seemed to enjoy it. Hubby and I each got some perch... because I can't go to a place called Birdie's Perch and not order perch. It was very fresh, and very delicious. Plan for a wait a while for your food, as it is cooked to order and they get quite busy on summer afternoons. It's worth it. There is also a little ice cream shack next door to the Birdie's bus, although we didn't partake because we had a different ice cream destination in mind elsewhere on our Essex Co adventure.
Absolutely a treat for the taste buds! It was what we needed after a long hike at point Pelee. Be prepared to wait for your order. But I assure you it was well worth the wait. I think we waited at least 30 mins for ours. The restaurant got a classic diner feel to it. A diner in a bus that is. Lol. The bus is double decker, with the first deck being the kitchen and the upper eating area. There are plenty of seating area outside. Park benches in the back and patio seats all over the lot. The perch were well seasoned and perfectly fried. And the tartar sauce is to die for! It was garlicy. Have that gum ready!! We paid $2 to upgrade the fries to Poutine. Probably the best $2 spend on food! Last thing... There were a lot of bees (we went last week of August)! If you are scared, eat inside!
