If you are visiting Leiria, you have to stop to eat their burger. Seriously, I've tried almost every burger house here in Leiria and this is the best you'll find it. Also they have a lot of different beers so you can try the best burger with great beer.
Let me begin by saying that I love Mulligan 's. I 've been going there for years with my friends, some of which had the chance to perform for the pub 's Saturday night crowds on more than one occasion. They 've got great beers (Mulligan 's Red Ale!! and their homemade food is just as good. The staff has always been utmost friendly, and many have become known faces. What then makes Mulligan 's Average and not Excellent ? In summary: the new location. When Mulligan 's moved a few shops right to a bigger, renewed premises, something changed along with the location. Enter the old Mulligan 's, and you walk into a gritty, smokey, atmosphere ridden bar. It 's small but in the best of ways. The walls are black and yet inviting. They are laden with pub posters and deco. On the end wall and looking into the entire pub was the stage, decorated with wooden crates of Jameson whiskey. It was at this pub that I watched numberless performances of the great No Boundaries and got smashed with people from all walks of life from American Army men on a NATO drill to my French and History teachers Today I walk into the new Mulligan 's, and I feel as though I 'm walking into the McDonald 's of Irish pubs; rather than a place with its own identity, it 's as though I 'm walking into a kit replica of Temple Bar, where instead of gritty, time-wearied patrons, I stumble into parents eating cheeseburgers with their young children. Worst of all? No more stage. Mulligan 's has definitely changed and not for the better. While I will still come to enjoy the occasional pint and burger with the legendary chips, it will be mostly just to greet the employees and reminisce about the old place, for I have no affinity for the new one.
Very interesting decoration of irish theme, great choice of handcrafted beers, food (burgers! They are awesome) I had a lot of time to kill for a couple of days alone in the city before picking up the bus, and I stopped by to eat and plunge into my drawings there, as I was hosted and kept company but amazingly cool, lovely and caring Rita, whom I've befriended eventually. Saturdays the place fills in tight, on Sundays it's quiet and relaxing! Totally worth a drop by!
