My family and I came to this restaurant on Sunday for my sister-in-law's baby shower. We had a reservation for a table of 18 and had all chosen our meals in advance. However, when we arrived at 1pm, we were informed that they had to serve a few tables before us. It turned out that they were actually serving anyone who walked in that afternoon before us. We ended up waiting over two hours for our food to arrive. Some of us didn't receive Yorkshire puddings with our roast because they had run out, and one member of our party didn't even get her meal because it was also out of stock. They didn't inform her until after the rest of us had been served, leaving her waiting while everyone else ate. When we questioned the staff about this, they rudely stated that walk-ins were a priority and they couldn't turn them away. Despite having pre-booked our meals, we did not receive the priority service we expected. This experience was incredibly disappointing and the service was terrible. I would not recommend this place for a party.
I was disappointed with my experience at McKenzies today. I have enjoyed lovely Sunday lunches here in the past, but today was a letdown. I took my best friend for her birthday, as she was visiting from London. We had a later booking and were told upon arrival that there were no roasts left. We ordered some nibbles for starters and Seabass for mains, which cost £20 per meal. The staff seemed eager to get our mains out, asking if we wanted it just a few minutes after receiving the appetizers. We asked for a little more time, but unfortunately when the mains arrived, the fish was overdone and my serving had only half of a potato with no other carbs. I couldn't finish my fish as it was too dry. I mentioned this to the waiter at the end, who apologized but did not follow up with anything else. The ambiance was also off; instead of the usual jazz and ambient Sunday lunch music, there were strange 90s hits playing and not much of an atmosphere. I don't think I will be returning to McKenzies, unfortunately.
This restaurant has its good and bad points. The interior is beautiful and the pre-order system is excellent as it lists everyone individually. However, the staff need to improve their service as it was slow, although they were very polite. The food was just okay, and it was disappointing that a pre-order did not all come out at the same time. There was a 15-minute gap between the first and last main courses being served. The steak was very fatty and we complained as my mom couldn't eat it. The manager tried to explain how the steak should be, but eventually took 10% off the bill after some reluctance. They had already added a service charge, which was also disappointing. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this place. They need to work on improving their service.
I arrived with 10 friends. Pints of lager £6!!!! Bottles of Birra Moreti £8!!! There were 4 curries on the menu. They put out small side plates with a lettuce leaf, some diced cucumber, and raw diced carrot on it. The rice was very stodgy and the Chana Masala and Paneert Mecani were not great. Apparently, the lamb was very nice as was the naan bread. It was a ripoff to be fair as we paid £30 per head for the mains with rice with a small naan with a tony serving plate and a pint. I just do not understand why the veggie option is as expensive if not more expensive than meat. There are a lot of great Indian/bangladeshi restaurants in Lichfield so please do not have your intelligence insulted by coming here.
