Might be the only place where they serve halal smoked meat (sandwich and poutine).would recommend.
I am a huge lover of smoked meat sandwiches having grown up in Montreal but now living in Ottawa. I found this place in Montreal and I'm so thrilled and can't wait to return. Cute little place, has a 1950's charm to it. The smoked meat was just as I hoped it would be juicy and packed with flavour but just not enough of it, the portion was too small. Really nice staff and they spoke a little English. We will be visiting again the next time we're in Montreal!
Went on Saturday evening with a party of seven for the famous halal Montreal style smoked meat. Upon arrival we kind of wondered if the place was open. There was nobody in the whole place except a lonely guy who had finished his food. Walked in anyway and first thing we noticed was dust on windows and on the inside of all see through fridges. So it definitely can improve on basic cleanliness. Seeing the place so quiet we wondered for a moment whether ordering food at this place was a good idea. There was a single young gentlemen behind the cash who later prepared the food and called on us to pick the food up. He was nice and answered our questions politely. A true one man show. Having come a long way with kids we decided to order the food anyways. Obviously it took the gentleman some time to prepare the food. The smoked meat sandwich are great and very tender but perhaps smaller than what you might expect having seen the photos. Still a mouthful. I'm not a poutine fan and certainly there was nothing positive to report here after having tried Costco's version in the past except that the gravy was too much. The Le Gandole sandwich wasn't that special either. Overcooked and delivered way later than the rest of our order. Cheese burger was well done beyond juiciness too. I kind of feel bad writing all this because I genuinely want small family businesses do well. Specially the ones who have made it far enough to make a name. Maybe this all happened on a bad week in which the owner wasn't around but the dust and quietness of the place on Saturday night tells me more. Would I go back? Perhaps not. The place isn't vibrant and lacks basic management. It's a downer. Would I recommend it for trying the halal smoked meat? In absence of any competition in 2017, Yes.
Great tasting food, and cheap. Shares a location with a small patisserie
