I have a story to tell about a restaurant that left me feeling nothing but contempt. My partner and I were craving curry and after searching online, we stumbled upon The Saffron. Unfortunately, our instincts should have told us to turn back as soon as we walked in and didn't smell the familiar aroma of Indian cuisine that we were expecting. We ordered poppadoms and pickles, but the waitress was quick to bring us store-bought poppadoms with strange accompaniments. The appetizers were edible but lacked the usual excitement of Indian flavors. Our main dishes were equally disappointing - my favorite mushroom rice was simply white rice with a few raw mushroom slices. We tried to flag down a waitress to address our concerns, but our requests went unanswered. When the bill arrived, we quickly realized that we were better off leaving. In summary, if a curry house doesn't smell like one, and they don't bother asking how many poppadoms you want, it's best to steer clear.
We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening with a group of 6. After reading some negative reviews, we were worried about what to expect. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, but filled up by 8:30pm. We were served our drinks promptly and sat down. The menus were dirty and held together with masking tape, as mentioned in a previous review. We placed our order and waited for our popadoms, which arrived quickly along with a pickle tray including grated carrots. The popadoms were delicious. However, a trip to the restroom revealed a lack of cleanliness and maintenance. The main dishes arrived, but the rice came 15 minutes later. The waitress didn't speak much and just placed the dishes on the table without explaining what they were. The dishes were tasty but very spicy. Despite the small portions, the food was decent. We asked for more drinks, but they never arrived. The bill came to £20 each. Overall, the service and facilities were not up to par, but the food was surprisingly good. Perhaps they need to work on understanding what "medium hot" means.
This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. The service was terrible, the food was below expectations, and the ambiance was tired. I will not be returning and advise others to stay away.
In this restaurant, as it was the closest in our hotel, the weather was very included. the waitress greeted us cordially and showed us on our table. she was the best piece of our culinary experience. she was cheerful and polite. we tried to order. drinks, but they didn't have the most drinks we wanted, e.g. 5 beers listed on the map, but they had only 1. martini was listed as baileys, but the waitress had to apologize for not having. at this point we would have left, but the rain was so heavy that we decided to stay. the food was edible, but most of them were cooked. the poppadome were boiled and soft and flexible. the pickle tablet consisted of a grated carrot, some grated wobbles and mango cutney. not a great experience and we felt regret for the very happy, pleasant and helpful waitress.
This has for the last four or five years been my go to restaurant not anymore. Went with my husband for supper yesterday. We should have been suspicious given that we could get a table. The night was an absolute disaster. Menus were filthy, sticky...taped together. Poppadoms were shop brought and thus in lots of bits. The sauces were awful mango was thick and sugary. We ordered food including a paratha, apparently they didn’t have any parathas so this was replaced with a chapati. The food was awful two meals didn’t come together but rather with a fifteen minute interval hence my food got cold whilst waiting for my husbands food to arrive. The whole experience was awful. It is so sad that a restaurant that was so amazing can have sunk so low! So very disappointing!
