Auberge de La Gabriere Restaurant

Had a meal here whilst staying overnight on our way to the south. Knew it was going to be good as the other diners were all French! The food & service were good value & were well worth getting off the beaten track for.

I suppose this must have been our fifth or sixth visit over the last few years. Sadly the menu does not change much. The setting is stunning and the place is always very busy indeed. Perhaps it was because we had booked for 13.30 and all was in full flow when we arrived but the welcome was very poor - we were left standing and ignored until I pushed my way to the bar to ask for attention. The service was extremely slow and the food rather over cooked and tired. I felt the staff were overworked and this left many waiting far too long. We shall not return in a hurry! I had been so good - what a shame. Perhaps this was just a bad day?

We stayed 4 nights in the auberge on half board and couldn't have been treated better. The place itself with comfortable rooms and overlooking the Etang is great and the food was so magnificent, it was an absolute treat. Staying 4 nights, we went through the menu and everything was beautifully cooked and presented with just the right size of portion. The staff were very helpful and attentive and we'd happily go back there.

A delightful place to eat with a lovely view of a beautiful lake (as long as it hasn't been drained!). Good food and attentive staff.

We visited for lunch, expecting to be offered a Menu of the day, we opted for an 18€ menu which offered either a starter and dessert or main and dessert. There was a board with choices on, plus choices in the menu all very confusing - None of the food we had was particularly inspirational. We speak and understand a certain amount of French, and were still confused. Our friends who speak no French would have struggled if they hadn't been with us. The staff weren't particularly helpful explaining the menus. The best part of the restaurant is the view over the lake.
