Valle Galfina looked lovely on the website and off we went. When we got there (at about 11:15 am it was deserted, seemingly. The vines stood in rows with great bunches of black grapes waiting to be picked, but nobody was around! The chateau is such a gorgeous old Sicilian manor house. So beautiful. After a few minutes the ownernof the estate Salvatore Scilio himself appeared. He had just sent the harvest pickers off for an extended lunch you can 't pick grapes in the rain. Even though we didn 't have a booking, Salvatore welcomed us in and offered us a tour of the winery and a tasting of his wines. How fascinating that was it is a small, but very modern winery (21ha under vines where everything is done right there on the estate, all the way way from grape to bottle and everything in between. Salvatore is obviously a great believer in the power of nature: To make great wine you must start with the best grapes, he says, and the vineyard is totally organic. We tasted four wines: Etna Bianco, Etna Rosso, the mature Orpheus read, and a sweet red dessert wine. All great. The Orpheus is sublime! It was very hard to sip and spit because I was driving. We bought one mixed case (hard to take more back on the plane! and will order more online. Their prices are really extraordinarily reasonable. We are looking forward very much to enjoying the wines with good fresh food, or by the fireside in winter. So: if you like wine and are interested in a personal tour, do call Salvatore. It was one of those lovely random but wonderful trips we will treasure forever.
A stunning restaurant in an equally stunning organic vineyard owned by the most friendly genuine family. A 5 course meal conjured up by a local chef from Linguaglossa accompanied by sumptuous wine! That's it?
We arrived via Click Airport Transfer, wanted it to be a quiet rest. They drove us in an excellent car E180,and arrived at a 38 acres Vin Yard.....with many other fruit trees. The owners,Mr. Giovanni Scilio an excellent host and his better half Mrs. Scilio is an emazing Lady. Louise, there Daughter takes care of the Bookings, while Eng. Salvatore takes care of the Winery and Vin Yards. He gave us a tour of how complicated things are behind a good bottle of wine. Nina, an excellent Restaurant Manageress, and is very flexible and always there to assist and help. The Houses are very clean, and all sheets etc are white as snow. Every night the food was excellent, and off course their own Wine is served....Etna Rosso,White..a nice selection of Scilio Wines. The place is so quiet, I could hear the dried leaves scattering on the ground. The Pool area is brand new, with new showers, and bathrooms. The water is filtered and a Robot cleans the pool base and walls. Very nice walks in the Vin Yards, with a cool breeze and the astonishing views of Etna puffing away, while the hill sides give a nice scenery. Close by is off course Taormina, about 20 minutes drive
Valle Galfina is a wonderful vineyards and bed and breakfast located on the slopes of mt. Etna in Sicily!. The food, wine and atmosphere are great for romance and relaxation.
