We were treated to several different ciders on an outdoor...deck with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. We were served lunch on wooden serving boards. The ciders and lunch were absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed this excursion and were glad that we chose it.
We came here as part of a cider-tasting excursion from our river cruise ship. What an amazing experience. We were a small group (maybe so had a very personalized experience. The tour started in the farmhouse courtyard where our host (and the farm’s owner)...Klaus, explained the history of the farm and his mission to bring cider-making and natural farming to a new generation. Klaus was so enthusiastic about his family’s work and life that it was a joy to listen to him no matter what he was talking about. We then moved into the modern restaurant for a cider tasting and lunch. We were given different hard ciders to try (a variety of apple only, pear only, mixed, and sparkling). As they were being poured Klaus explained the history of Austrian cider making and provided us with tasting notes to enhance our experience. As the sparkling cider was being poured our “snack” was served. It was a full lunch and EVERYTHING was from the farm. There were three different types of house-cured pork ham, one very much like a fine Italian prosciutto; a green salad; potato salad (ask any Austrian about their love of potatoes); and a few relishes garnishes like freshly dug and grated horseradish. All of this was served on individual cutting boards with fresh from the oven bread. We finished with a sweet roll (also warm from the oven) and more sparkling cider. I learned so much about Austrian farm life and culture in these hours. The passion our host exhibited almost brought me to tears. One of the specialties of both the farm and restaurant is goose - ah, too bad I won’t be in Austria at Christmastime!
We went to this restaurant/farm as part of a tour with our Uniworld cruise of the Danube. The farm is up above Linz in the hills, so there is a beautiful view once you get up there. The cows greeted us as we arrived, and...we were escorted to the restaurant by the owner Klaus. We had a simple but delicious farmer's lunch of fresh cheeses, bacon, dumplings and vegetables. Accompanying our meal were samples of several of the different ciders that are made on the farm. My favorite was a sparkling cider that was better than champagne.
