Café Murano - St James - London

An absolutely wonderful meal in Cafe Murano! The atmosphere is like being in Italy, with excellent food and wine. Service was efficient. Prices were reasonable for central London. Would recommend going here if you want a great meal!

We booked this based on having tried some at home cooking boxes from this restaurant, it did not disappoint. Most of us stuck to the menu of the day either two courses for £25 or three for £30. With four options for each course. The food was excellent to the extent one of our party whose highest compliment is normally it was allright described it as the best meal he had had for several years. At no time did we feel rushed by the service who rustled up a Tomato sauce for the Chicken Milanese as they didnot have ketchup, it was a very enjoyable experiance.

Very disappointed. Booked for 7.30 on a Thursday evening. Seated quickly and was instantly aware that a conversation wouldn’t be possible over dinner, the acoustics were awful and the noise deafening. Staff were friendly and took our order swiftly. Starters were ok (arancini and cod fritters) a bit bland and very dry, could have done with some aioli or something. We shared a plate of very well cooked pasta with beef ragu the highlight of the meal. Then came the mains, veal with polenta, and monkfish. The veal was 90% bone and the polenta was a soup surrounding it, unpleasant at best. The monkfish was drowned in oil and garlic so much that you wouldn’t have known there was fish on the plate. We passed on dessert. Overall, incredibly disappointing and definitely will not be bothering with Murano again, there are far better places to eat in the immediate vicinity.

Great food and charming, very experienced staff. Also, a first class wine list. The only problem is the acoustics, which will make it unsuitable for anyone with hearing difficulties. Highly recommended.

Great food and great service. Stopped here for lunch on a weekend in London and were really pleasantly surprised at the great value. We expected it may have been much more expensive in this part of the city. On top of that the portions were great, we both left full and happy.
