All our courses were excellent, although the fish stew portion was a little small and could have done with a few extra pieces of fish in it. The layout of the restaurant groups diners into three separate areas so it feels quite intimate.
No point in saying how lovely this place is, because it's closing
We had a great dinner. Unfortunately, it will be the last. We are very sorry that Magdalen is closing...
This restaurant is fit for those who enjoy well cooked food invariably cooked with meat that is not everybody's taste: rabbit, squid, sweetbreads etc. but cooked beautifully. It's intimate burgundy coloured walls and wooden floors provide undistracting focus on the food. We enjoyed the all of our courses and our wine. The service was knowledgeable, slick and sympathetic. Because of the intimate nature of the place diners were respectful and quiet, certainly not a restaurant that would benefit from noisy families or large groups. Unfortunately, I learned that this favourite of mine is to be sold, a sad day for London.
Magdalen is one of our favourite restaurants but our Kat meal there was disappointing. Duck liver parfait and brioche was unrefined and not memorable. Both the beef brisket and calves liver were uncharacteristic you underdone not melt in the mouth. Normally it is 5 stars all round
