There was only one couple in the restaurant when I arrived at 12:30pm and I was seated in the somewhat dark and drab resaturant. I ordered dumplings to start and Kung Pao chicken with rice as a main. The dumplings were ok, nothing to write home about, a little dry but generally fine. The chicken dish was good and the portion of rice was enormous, enough for three people. I enjoyed the food, but it was drawn out over an hour on a Friday lunchtime. There was a lot of shouting coming from the kitchen from what appeared to be a very unhappy person. And one of the waiting staff wandered into the restaurant with a food processor under her arm, looking for a socket to noisly pulverize garlic while simultaeously having a conversation on the phone. Perhaps customers could be shielded from the problems going on in the kitchen while they are trying to enjoy a quiet lunch? It's quite possible that I got the restaurant on a bad lunch time and the food was generally good.
The king prawns in batter had the whole shell left on them and the eyes left on them they was terrible could not eat them.
Visited this place after seeing good reviews and staying in a hotel only 10 mins walk away. We weren’t disappointed! Very authentic, large portions and really tasty. Service was good, food presented well and lots of Chinese people eating in there which is always a good sign. I would highly recommend.
Order several dishes, enjoy the taste but concentrate on the texture; this place is about mouthfeel. Go for the cloud ear fungus and feel their elasticity and bite resistance; firm but soft and lipsmackingly delicious. Texture is an often neglected part of the eating expereince indulge!
We went there yesterday. The starters were amazing, I had prawns and dumplings but for the main course we had Dry Chilli Chicken with Peppercorns and there were more peppercorns than the chicken and also the peppercorns broke my teeth! It's unbelievable how many peppercorns they put in there and you could barely taste the food.
