Stokey Bears should remove this listing from OpenTable and their website to prevent more customers from being disappointed.
The restaurant is permanently closed, however, OpenTable still allowed us to make a reservation. We have now made a reservation at a different restaurant.
On Saturday evening for dinner to the stokey bear. the menu does not offer a large selection and the prices were probably a bit too much for what we had. it was uncomfortable, not with salt or pepper on the tables. I also had to go up and ask the bar to eat my meal? a shame as I had heard such good reviews.
Fabulous burgers and fries, really well made cocktails, party music and a good selection of beers. As this is a burger and beer place, it would be good if the wait-staff knew more about the beer they are serving, maybe a bit of training on the drinks. Apart from that, great experience!
Having seen lots of Stokey Bear burger photos online, I thought this is a must try venue for a real foodie. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside, and the inside is quite dark with laminated (sticky) menus. It does put doubt in your mind, as you are seated on wooden benches and stools with a large kitchen roll on each table. Nevertheless, we were determined to try their burgers, and ordered a Triple Threat £17 and a Greedy Bear £14 burger with deep fried chicken wings £6.50 as a side. The chicken wings were covered in a very strange sauce, which totally ruined them making them inedible. It was a slightly salty yet sour sauce not what we expected at all when it said deep fried (others are BBQ wings, which you 'd expect to receive covered in sauce). The burgers were totally overcooked the patty was dry, rock hard and well done (close to cremation making them hard to chew and hurt the roof of your mouth). The flavours within the burger were actually very, very good, and had the patty actually been medium rare like in all the photos they use online, I think it would easily have been a fabulous burger. As both burgers (five patties between them) were totally over cooked, I cannot recommend Stokey Bears. Also given the ambience of a very bare, dark restaurant with laminated menus. The staff were quite uninterested mind you, it was a Saturday afternoon, but I did expect better and perhaps a bit more enthusiasm towards their diners (only three tables in total). Tom, the founder/owner of Stokey Bears was sent a message on social media about our visit, and he seemed very disappointed and shocked about our bad experience. However, no attempt was made to encourage us to come back to try again, or try a different venue, which I found quite surprising. The flavours have REAL potential location, venue, staff and cooking skills though have not at those prices. Sorry to say this, as I love a great burger joint!
