The Depot was a solid, up-market gastropub come restaurant. It's now been bought and rebranding by the Rick Stein group. See other reveiws
I waited a long time to visit a family on a special evening: my wife is a fish lover and over the past few years we have enjoyed excellent meals at Rick Steins restaurants and we are excited when she took over The Depot, a great fish without the walk to the city. the location is wonderful and the warm and friendly atmosphere, but from there it is a bit down the service was friendly but slow and inconsistent we had to order 4 times butter and my wife discovered when reviewing the website what should have been part of it the main dish was never served. At these neglected prices is not good enough, no matter how charming. The other disappointment was the menu: options for those who did not eat fish were poor and uninspiring in that kind of arrogant 'if you come to a fish restaurant where you eat fish', two steaks and pasta. I have to say that the fruits de mer was amazing, but one would expect the rest of the fish to be nice but uninspiring, the kind of stuff that used to be 20 years ago in a good restaurant, nice but a little soso. .
This restaurant has now closed and the premises are occupied by Rick Stein. Rick Stein runs a good restaurant with good food and ambiance ...but very slow service
Well this place is a little unassuming gem at the end of the high street in quiet little Barnes Mortlake. The staff are lovely and friendly and super helpful. We had the oysters and mussels to start and they were just perfect. I can happily say that it carried over to the main, John Dory cooked to perfection. Met the owner manager and he was a lovely friendly chap.
