I'm puzzled by the other reviews. The sushi was quite disappointing. The rice wasn't fresh, and the fish had a strange, fishy taste. I'm not sure why they don't use lemon to mask the unpleasant flavor of older fish. It simply isn't worth the price. On the positive side, the waitress was incredibly nice and the service was excellent. However, poor food can really overshadow everything else. The tea was good, though.
This is the only place we go for sushi. It's run by a really kind family, and they prioritize quality over quantity. If you’re used to all-you-can-eat sushi, you’re in for a treat here! The prices are very reasonable, making it a great value overall. They are also adept at accommodating gluten-free orders. While most sushi is naturally gluten-free, they take extra care to avoid cross-contamination from tempura crunchies or soy sauce. As someone with celiac disease, I've never had any issues, and they even provide a separate container of naturally gluten-free Tamari with my takeout instead of regular soy sauce. They’ll also prepare spicy salmon without the crispy bits if you ask. Dietary considerations: Excellent attention to gluten-free needs.
The restaurant hop in the pursuit of decent sushi took my friend and I to Sushi Ya. Every time I've walked down Clarence, I've wanted to eat here, so the opportunity arose after starting the evening with bad sushi elsewhere. What a charming place. Its cozy and lined with a mirror wall to make it brighter inside. After checking the menu, our server started with a plate of edaname, followed by a not too salty miso soup that contained small cubes of tofu and finely sliced green onions. These dishes by the way weren't something we had ordered, they were included as part of the meal! Our medium sushi/sashimi pate followed after not too long of a wait. A rose was added to the plate in a nest of radish and carrot...beautiful presentation! The cuts of fish were fresh and of a decent sized portion and all the sushi was beautifully uniform. Wasabi was paired with a sweet rather than salty soy sauce which was a delightful and unexpected taste surprise which I loved. My friend had a hot pot of tea and I had a glass of water which was refilled when needed...our server was attentive, yet unobtrusive.Another family came in and sat behind us. They ordered different types of Bento boxes, so the time we go, I'm going to give that a try.The chef and the server are a couple, so this is a family-owned and operated business. If you are seeking fresh, well-prepared Japanese food in a clean and quiet atmosphere, Sushi Ya won't disappoint! Sushi Yeah! and Sushi Yaaayyy! ??I WILL be back many times and make sure to sample their very extensive menu. Thank-you for making my friend's last good meal in London (he's moving) enjoyable and memorable!
One of the best sushi experience I've had.The place is well maintained. Impressed with how well the kitchen and restaurant is arranged.
