Coming back here for the first time in years was very disappointing because the food is nothing like what I remember it.
To summarize, this restaurant is a family owned restaurant that servers Chinese food in a not-so-great part of town. On the other hand, the portions are massive for what you pay(so little). The owners are incredibly nice. I would recommend for a late night dinner or a simple family outing.
Lucky Restaurant is a wonderful Chinese food restaurant that opens at 4 pm every day but Mondays. This is a family run restaurant owned by Jason Moon who, along with his wife, prepares all of the dishes in their well equipped, clean kitchen. Like most of us, I am a fan of North American Chinese food. Chicken balls, fried rice, noodle dishes, chop suey, egg rolls, all of the things we love about Chinese Food. One thing I've found over the years however is that many restaurants are inconsistent or lacking distinct flavours, or any number of other concerns that can lead to a disappointing meal. Lucky however, is my go-to place now for over 4 years as Jason has always come through with delicious foods with fair prices. Not only does Lucky have a wide selection of dishes on the menu, from the usual to the more traditional, but Jason is open to customizing dishes to customer's desires. Want it a little more spicy or a little more mild? No problem. Have a craving for something a little different? Jason is great at listening to what you are feeling like and then "crafting" a dish to satisfy that craving. Jason has decades of experience cooking and it shows. He is a master in the kitchen and takes pride in the food he makes. His wife shares the kitchen work as well and you'll often find one of Jason's kids helping around the restaurant or waiting tables. While Chinese Restaurants seem to be fairly common, Lucky sets itself apart from the others with the high quality, consistent food it puts out and the reasonable prices they charge. The quantities are generous, so whether you're eating in or taking out, be sure to bring your appetite, or at least make room in the fridge for leftovers. Give this one a try. You won't be disappointed.
Inconsistency in quality was a major issue at this restaurant. The General Tao chicken with pineapple was sometimes delicious but other times disappointing. The beef with vegetables lacked flavor and had too many vegetables. The honey garlic ribs were difficult to chew. On the positive side, the Pork Fried Rice and Singapore noodles were good. Overall, this meal was a letdown for a special occasion, especially considering the not-so-friendly staff. It's time to start looking for a new dining spot.
