I had the Paella which was not a typical Paella. It had no flavour or sauce base just dry unseasoned rice, chorizo and seafood. The seafood was cooked really well but the flavours were just not there. For dessert we had the brownie sundae. Which was basically a dry chocolate cake with whip cream. No sauce or anything. It was also served in a martini glass which is just so dumb and messy and didn't even look nice. Probably won't go back. Very boring.
First time at this restaurant, will definitely return. Husband
First time visitor to Waldo's in Byron - stopped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the diverse menu. We started with calamari - grilled not fried - fresh and delicious. My wife had the lake perch one piece pan seared and another deep fried. I had paella which was very good well seasoned with fresh mussels, shrimp, and nice spicy andouille sausage. A nice meal. Dining room is small but the early hour meant there was plenty of room and it wasn't noisy. We will definitely go back again.
My wife and I went to Waldo's in Byron for our anniversary dinner. It was the middle of the week and the restaurant is near our home it I had never tried it. We are fans of the downtown location so we thought we would give it a try. I expected it to be a scaled down version of the other location and it was in terms of size but it was on par in almost every other way. The menu was virtually identical with a focus on classical French dishes all done very well. We enjoyed the baked Brie appetizer and as we had brought our own wine which they open for a corkage fee we each chose lame for our entree. My wife had the rack of lame and I had the braised shank. Both were excellent and while we had intended to take some home we finished the whole plate. The dessert menu is not large but it is very well executed. We shared a creme brûlée and it was perfect The environment is not what you would call upscale or refined but it is a bistro after all. That would be all that keeps it from 5 stars. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday and our server Jen was able to keep everyone happy with quick service and a lovely disposition. We may have found our new local bistro.
Seventeen of us after a small private wedding. We were seated in an alcove in a horseshoe arrangement. As the staff approached us, they were professional and friendly but remained unobtrusive throughout. The food was marvelously presented and had wonderful flavour. It didn't come quickly, but I suspect that was because of the nature of our gathering and may have been planned that way. I cannot comment on price or value because we were guests. but what a wonderful meal!
