The daily menus are regularly sold out (which is kind of okay given that it takes quite some time to get food to this remote place). Overall solid but nothing exciting.
Really enjoying the definition of a gastropub we got disappointed because this was not the feeling. The place part of the hotel felt a bit like being in a restaurant in a shopping mall. Nothing bad to say about service. And food was good but all ended on ‘medium’.
We had lunch at Barentz Gastropub shortly after arriving in Longyearbyen. Price wise it's at the lower end of what you will pay for a meal in Svalbard but service was friendly and quick. The portions were also large, my fish was fresh and tasted great and my wife was pleased that the vegan pizza was served without pretend cheese. The pub was also clearly popular with locals who were constantly stopping by for a meal or takeaway. Perfect for a quick bite to eat before an evening of aurora spotting.
Best pizza place in town. Thin crust, well cooked and filling. I went several times with friends as the price quality is really good. Better to reserve if you know you will go closer to or during the weekend. Can be really crowded sometimes. Lots of students go there too. They try to accommodate for allergies and vegeterian people as much as they can.
Great reindeer stew! Beautiful surroundings with mountains and sea, but the restaurant could be made a little more cozier.
