Feedback gevenCouldn 't miss the signs lining the road after crossing the bridge into Westpoint, VA this past Saturday on our way to Gloucester Court House. LUCY 'S BBQ, BEST BBQ, etc., etc. So I said to my partner, Beverly, On the way back we 'll stop for a late lunch and check this place out . And true to my word, we did just that arriving around 1:45 PM. There were two tables occupied with a total of four adults and four children. Everything looked clean, albeit a mishmash of what looked like yard sale tables and chairs. I 'm into eclectic, but this was beyond eclectic. And the huge leather lounger in one corner was a real curiosity.Over the years there have been several restaurants at this location; one really wonderful and the others just OK. Unfortunately, Lucy 's doesn 't even rate a 'just OK '. The menu displayed the usual items one would expect to see with some major exceptions. Chopped pork, chicken and hot dogs comprise the meat selections. No sliced brisket, no fries. When ordering I was asked if I wanted Texas or NC style BBQ. When I asked what the difference was I was informed it was simply the sauce the pork was soaking in! When I think of Texas BBQ I think of brisket, not simply a catsup based sweet sauce. Sides included BBQ beans, spicy green beans, mac and cheese, cole slaw, potato salad. I ordered a BBQ platter for $11.95 and wanted the Mac and cheese all out so I got the BBQ beans ant the cole slaw. Beverly ordered the BBQ sandwich with slaw and potato salad for $7.95. I knew I was in trouble when the Platter was served in a plastic fries basket which also held a small bowl of the BBQ beans and slaw. what looked to be two scoopsThe beans looked like out of the can pork and beans only with less flavor. I wound up dumping half a bottle of the Texas sauce into them and it still didn 't help! The slaw was so finely chopped it was almost the consistency of baby food, only once again without any seasoning detected. And speaking of baby food... the BBQ pork was so finely chopped it was difficult to tell which end of the baby it might have originated from. Again, no real spicing of the meat, the only flavor being the sauce it was simmering in the crock pots and that I added liberally trying to salvage my lunch. Overall I would say no one here knows how to really cook with a little salt and pepper and other spices to infuse some taste into the food. I 've eaten a lot of BBQ over the years, some of it pretty darn wonderful this wasn 't it. For $28.80 with tip for lunch I expect at least good, well prepared and appetizing food. Nope. We won 't be going back to Lucy 's, and unless they wise up there will be yet another restaurant at that location for us to try in the real near future.
