Feedback gevenI ordered a morning size, garnelen tom yum, drain and spring rolls for 140k kip. the prices are somewhat high compared to other laos restaurants. eating is good so that no complaining. owner joy is quite friendly and beautiful to speak, they also speak well English.
Delectable Array of Dishes!! Stumbled across this Local resto as I was weaving my way through the tiny streets of Luang Prabang! I discovered Joy’s by chance was delightfully impressed! Not to be confused with the same name Hostel or Guesthouse! On a quiet residential road, Nam Pho that end the Mekong River! Great for a walk after the meal! The full menu is posted just in front of the entrance! A must try is the starter, Eggplant Tempura with the mild spicy dipping sauce! We savoured the Spicy Fish in Coconut! Rich flavours of fried fish in a coconut vegetable red curry! This definitely was to rage for! Also the Fried Rice with Vegetables was rather tasty! Finale was the Lao coffee to digest this filling meal! Highly recommend a visit to tantalize the tastebuds! DUI, our shy waiter was amicable accommodating! Sat outside comfortably! Indoor seating with tablecloths napkins! The walls are decorated with the husbands photos of his journeys through the villages! Candid photography! Great read is the framed newspaper article on the wall of Joy, the Lao owner her husband Paul, Australian! Resto open through the day til 8-9Pm! Looking forward to a return visit! Photos below! Nice quiet family place a block in from the Mekong river. Easy to miss so use your map! Met Joy, she shyly said her food was very basic, but I disagree. We ordered the whole fried fish (amazing sauce), Morning Glory and a Pad Thai... Almost licked the plates! And Gin Tonics for couple bucks... Does it get better?
We enjoyed delicious curries with sticky rice in a beautifully appointed dining room. The tofu massaman was very good. I asked for spicy, and it was fairly tame, but very flavorful. My husband had the coconut fish curry menu, which includes eggplant tempura appetizer and sliced banana and mango for dessert. Lovely tables, chairs, tablecloths, cloth napkins, and cutlery. Many apparently vegan options are available, though I did not confirm that they are 100% vegan.
Overall, the food was good. The massaman curry pork was excellent... Cooked with fresh vegetables that were not overdone, and with a creamy sauce that was not too sweet. The Special Fish had a lot of ingredients on top, too much perhaps, because the same ingredients overpowered the taste of the fish. The other dishes were nicely cooked and the sauces tasted great as well, especially the sauce with the spring rolls.
