This spot puts a bbq sauce on their j chicken and that is different from all other j I've had both on the island and off. The j bbq sauce was really really yummy. I would buy it by the bottle if they sold it. The chicken was tender and flavorful but not as hot and spicy as the island j I love. I imagine many people will like this less spicy version but I prefer to bring on the scotch bonnet peppers. The cabbage and crispy fried plantains were also divine. The plantains were some of the best I've had. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The Rice and peas were lacking in some typical Jamaican flavor... not sure I can put my finger on whether it's thyme or coconut milk or scallion that is missing. I would def visit again. My Meal lasted both lunch and dinner for me for $13. I hope they will consider adding a traditional Jamaica bread to their menu such as dumpling or festival! Love having Jamaican food in PRP. Can I also suggest a steel drum band and some patio tables on the weekends to increase business?
Finally a real Jamaican restaurant with real Jamaicans with Beef Patties and J Patties! The Curry Chicken was delicious and the staff was friendly!
From reading past negative reviews of this place, it would seem that the owners are very good at taking feedback and applying it positively. I specifically came here to praise the cabbage which others in the past have called bland and under-seasoned. We both thought it was incredible. I 'm unsure of whether the sign inside indicating that there is no oxtail or goat is indicative of for today or from now on, but I was slightly disappointed. They also had no Jamaican drinks including the soursop I was looking for or the Ting I was expecting, but it 's a new business so it 's not a big deal. We bought 2 dinners; a j chicken and a curry chicken and shared both. I thought the food was well-portioned for the money (another bit of negative feedback in the past) as well as seasoned well, fresh, cooked well, and overall delicious. For my palate, I would have preferred the j sauce to dial back the sweet and dial up the heat some, but I enjoy and can handle significant spice and I understand that the business has to appeal to the masses. Overall, I immediately referred the restaurant to several friends and we will be returning. I wish the owners the best and can 't wait to see what 's in store for the future!
The j chicken was really good especially with the sauce that came with it. The rice and beans complimented the chicken very well. The cabbage could’ve used a bit more seasoning but still ate it all. I’ve yet to try the oxtails, but definitely worth trying.
I ordered from this restaurant for the first time today and I was very disappointed. It was some of the nastiness Jamaican food that I ever tasted. My oxtails was burnt, dried out and was not seasoned at all (I wish I could post pictures) and my curry goat was absolutely tasteless. I will never order from them again and will not recommend it to anyone. If you have a Taste for some jamaican food roof top grill would be my recommendation.
