Excellent food and service. The cod fish was one the best I have eaten.Very friendly and warm host that made so comfortable.
In a sea of restaurants that have door hosts that harass you to eat in their establishments, O Caracol is the exception. Chef António’s 1st question was « what kind of wine do you like? » followed by « What do you feel like eating tonight? » and then he said. « I will feed you well, trust me. » Did he see we were exhausted? Maybe, or maybe that is just how he is; a good man that knows and loves the business he is in and understands that simplicity is best. Trust him we did and after the Octopus and Sea bass (shared by 2) added to the wine he chose for us he added 2 desserts, a crème brûlée and an almond rolled cake, that were a perfect end to an even more perfect meal. Chef António gave us the opportunity to let go and we chose to do so. If he’s there when you go and he offers you the same opportunity I strongly recommend that you do. And trust me, it won’t break your budget!
O Caracol was the first restaurant we visited as we had arrived in Lisbon. We were tired and starving and it was right next to our apartment so we just stopped by without having any expectations. The waited kindly explained and recommended local portugese cousine which meant a lot to us! The athmosphere was homely and relaxed and the food local and tasty. Highly recommended!
I loved this traditional tavern. The owner's recommendations for wine and appetizers were perfect, and the portions were massive! Absolutely delicious order of octopus but there was way too much food or me. I would suggest ordering a few small plate appetizers and sharing the main plates.
