Also roast and pasta ist really good. We didn 't expect that in a simple bar. Moreover the terrace enjoys the last evening sun. A privilege compared to many bars in town. Definitely a good place to go for a sundowner and more.
On our first visit to Lucca we stayed in an apartment overlooking this bar and it became a bit of a 'regular ' for us as there were international football matches being played live. This visit we were staying in the south side of the city but as it 's no great walk anyway, we walked here on our first full day to start with a drink at our old haunt. It was quite quiet but they were welcoming and as is so often the case in Lucca we were given a tasty snack to enjoy with our drinks.
Bar Martini, across the road from our apartment was the perfect place to sit and relax and just people watch over a quality coffee, prosecco or glass of the local vino. Hard working and English speaking Guilia, is the perfect hostess. Always quick with a smile she was welcoming and generous with complimentary bruschetta, olives or chips. Whilst the meal menu was not extensive, her salads and pastas were fresh, homemade and generous in size. The location opposite Porta Santa Maria is very handy for wall walkers looking for a break, a drink or a light meal. We noted that Bar Martini was well supported by Lucca locals, which is always a great indicator. Patrons should note that Guilia opens Bar Martini early in the mornings and aimed to clean up and close around 5.30pm after a long day!!
Staying in Lucca for a couple of days just outside the city walls. When walking under the wall into the city the Bar Martini was almost the first we came across, sat down and enjoyed a couple of beers, and watched the world go by in the little square. The owner was lovely and came to the table with delicious toasted bread covered in fresh tomatoes, herbs and olive oil! couldn't resist stopping in for a drink on our second day and we were greeted like friends, would definitely go back if we come back to Lucca.
We've twice popped in for an early evening aperativo. The first time we tried Aperol, a local favourite, the second we had wine from Lucca. Both times we had a warm welcome, great bruschetta, and a sense of being in a local bar offering good food and service, not just a tourist place. Loved the table clothes, greenery, v clean, and just off the main square, so out of the traffic and people waiting to park. Is by the local water fountain, so a good watering hole in every sense.
