It is a perfect place to stop for lunch or for an afternoon coffee break as we discovered. Run by an English man who I found very helpful offering great advice on where and what to do whilst in Lucca. The food was delicious and really good value. I highly recommend this bar restaurant as a good base whilst visiting the city.
I have had lunch twice at this little restaurant in Lucca. It is always busy but you never feel it's a problem. The staff is very friendly and helpful and you always find something tasty on the handwritten menu on the wall. The prices are incredibly low for the value you get.
Looking for a modern and local place to eat, we walked in Oxford Bar Restaurant. What a nice and relaxed place to have a tasty 'pranzo '!! Made by the English owner/cook, but still very Italian. When after 15 minutes all tables were occupied by locals, we knew this was a good choise. First sip of his red housewine confirmed again. We enjoyed the 'carne di maiale ', the 'verdura al forno ' and 'torte di nonna and di nonno '. No big dishes, just fine. Made and presented with sincere enthousiasm by the owner. Go there!
We passed by here on the way to Palazzo Mansi and it was packed with locals, so we took note. We returned for lunch and found a lovely restaurant only open two years by an English owner with a creative Italian menu that was very inexpensive and delicious. Lunch for two, seated, with one dish each, two sparkling water and bread on the table was 13 euro and it was very good with great service. The owner is very friendly and approachable. Give it a try.
