We found well prepared local meals of the Lausitz (Brandenburg) and even accompanied them with a local wine of Brandenburg (yes, that exists and some of them are good). The restaurant under the vaults of the town hall is cosy and the service was perfect and friendly. We had Lausitzer Leibgerichte (favorite Lausitz dishes: Trout filet, pork aspic, regional curd cheese with horseradish, corniness with apple and onion, and spice cucumber), then Bratfisch von der Lachsforelle (pickled fried salmon trout, as grand mother prepared it, with potatoes, sour cream milk, linseed oil and regional cucumber). Simply delicious. The Brandenburgian wine was a blend of Solaris and Riesling from Marbachs Wolfshügel we liked it. The Ratskeller also has a fine selection of wines from more traditional wine regions, in case you do not trust the wines of Brandenburg. We felt almost at home in the Ratskeller the waiter identifed our Swiss dialect as being from Basel, as he had worked in Switzerland for many years. Luckau is a pretty small town in the Brandenburgian Lausitz, south east of Berlin. Surrounded by a ditch and a town wall you find a small castle on a small hill, a Gothic church built with red bricks, an old Romanesque church now used as a festival hall and baroque gable houses. There is also a real vineyard near Luckau (Juergen Rietze). The city of Luckau was worth the detour when spending our vacation in the Spreewald... AND CLEALY, the Luckau Ratskeller was worth the trip. ¨
