With the Cafe Babette, which was opened at the beginning of 2019, I would like to add another gastro plant in a short report that refers to a visit in November 2019. Just as real Babettes would appear safely in a red dress, so also the wine-red painted facade of the Kaufmannshaus, in which the cafe of the same name is located, is a scavenger in the Fleischhauerstraße. Outside view. The interior of the restaurant extending over two floors also suggests an artistic potential of the owner. The typical wooden beams are creatively wrapped in gold color and numerous paintings decorate the walls. You can look a little closer. Interior view. This early evening, of course, the operator personally took care of the operation, which by the way does not mean Babette (I did not ask how the name of her cafe then comes from). After a somewhat closed and word-carg-acting beginning, however, with increasing duration of my visit, she became noticeable and more communicative. The focus here is culinary as a café/bar, of course, initially on drinks and smaller snacks. But also a daily offer of delicious food is granted, which has to offer a vegetarian variant in addition to a usually omnivore. My choice was the vegetarian option of the day: a bean soup. In addition to the mandatory green beans, white beans, Kidney beans, leek, carrot, zucchini and potatoes were also included in the deposit. This sounded like a potpourri, which then tastefully lacked a little matching spices for me (so I did not get around the pepper mill on the table). In addition, the components for my taste were quite pale-soft, which of course is difficult to prevent with a one-pot offered all day. Perhaps it would have been possible to compensate for the crisp components prepared by adding a la minute before serving. There were two discs baguette in standard quality. With 5.5€, the bids, despite the criticisms, were priced acceptable to my feeling. “Babette” left a 3.5-point impression with me in the bottom line: nothing could be roughly complained, but the place could not surprise positively. Nevertheless, in no way did I feel that I was wasting my money here and would therefore generally not be betrayed by a visit.
