After traveling through italy, Greek, amsterdam and now through france, my fiancée and I agreed. that is the best meal we had in our 3 weeks of travel. I'm sorry, cacio de pepe, sonja and mike in the villa scopetello, and the builders and cheesemakers of amsterdam in the albert cuyp market. the team of la table can simply not be beaten. new menu daily with the freshest ingredients, without much extra seasoning and seasoning, so that the ingredients are the heroes of the dishes. Note: if they are looking for a fast meal on the run, they continue to search. if you can spare an evening and are willing to sit for a few hours, the cook and the team are sure to inspire. some things are better not rushed. that's one of them. we sat there for 3.5 hours, an hour after closing and simply enjoyed the conversation, wein and limoncello after our amazing 3 curs meal we told our server how good that was eating, and a long time ago the chef and his two sous cooks came out and talked to us about the condition of French eating in these days, asking where we were, and explaining his philosophy. we didn't know much francais, and the chef didn't have much English, but the sous kitchen and the server helped bridge the gap. beautiful small kitchen that you can not miss when you are in the opposite. very friendly and helpful. we wish to stay longer in lyon so we can see what will be next menu! manifiqué!
After my awful dinner at the adjoining La Coquette,we enjoyed the big comeback of Thierry Lhopital, famous for his lièvre à la Royale to La Croix-Rousse plateau. He has opened 5 months ago with his spouse Michèle a new pleasant place with a nice terrace. We had...the unique and good 24 euro 3 courses menu,a real bargain at dinner. As starter I had an eggplant crunchy with mozzarella, emmenthal, pesto and a well-seasoned salad. My wife's marinated salmon and her main,a coley with spinach, ratatouille and crab velouté sauce were great. As main I enjoyed a tasty beef cheek with paste De Cecco. My dessert,a zuppa was so-so but the chocolate fondant was nice as the pineapple gaspacho served with a muscar sorbet. We washed our meal with a St Chinian,a 25 euro red wine from the south of France. At lunch there is a 13 euro formule and a 16 euro menu We'll come back!
It is nice to have Thierry and Michele Lhopital back in the Croix Rousse. (They formally ran La Marmite en Bois It is not high end or overly fancy but his cooking is fresh and different from the usual steak and/or fish dishes which one...has started to expect. The setting is relaxed.
