Deeply unpleasant, dirty place staffed by a very weird individual who truly does not belong in the hospitality industry. I have given it as many stars as appear on its hygiene rating sticker on the door. You may wish to consider elsewhere unfortunately.
Well the food was absolutely lovely. I had a simple Korma. It was really nice and big well cooked chunks of chicken with more than enough sauce. The rice was well prepared and wholesome. In conclusion of first part of review, food was great and average priced. If any downside, and this is minor the lighting in the restaurant is a bit dark. Similar to what you may find in public toilets to stop druggies finding a vein.... SIMILAR but nothing like, there is a nice ambience in the big and clean room and nice big expensive looking photos. Guy serving was helpful and interested in where we had just come from. Will use again, definitely.
I would love to be able to rate this restaurant but as it was closed when it was supposed to be open I can't. Web page and sign on door both said open at 5pm but at 6pm it was still shut.
If you find yourself in Machynlleth on a Saturday night and the first pub you go to isn't serving food, and the second pub you go to is fully booked, then DON'T make a decision to go to the Taj Mahal. service was friendly but quite useless (forgetting things), food was poor. Meat was extremely chewy and the sauces weren't particularly tasty. Nan bread was ok restaurant itself was particularly dirty. Carpets were filthy and the windowsill in the toilets was covered in dead flies. Most random Indian restaurants in the UK are of a decent quality but this place has slipped through the net. Avoid unless you are a fan of Delhi Belly.
