Sophia's Bakery & Cafe - Madison

I can't believe this is considered a cafe My daughter and I stopped on a Sunday a.m. Did we miss a seating room? The place was crammed, no seating whatsoever. I saw some people chatting at their tables over dirty dishes, thinking, oh we'll get a table soon. Then realized, they weren't going anywhere anytime soon. Not long after, three more people piled in behind us, in a space where there already was no space.The smells were great, but part of enjoying a great meal is the surroundings. It was claustrophobic and filled with garage sale type junk. And NO seating. Kind of need that.

This is a hole in a wall place a small open kitchen, small tables and large tables, with a seating for about packed. All ingredients are fresh and the food is freshly prepared in front of you! It is a communal seating. In other words, expect strangers to sit at your table and expect to sit at strangers' tables. If you are not into communal eating then go at a slow time when you can have a table for yourself, or get carryout. I like communal eating so it is fun to meet varied people during each visit. All in all, delicious food and down to earth folks in a small town feel.

I like to eat communal, so it makes fun to meet different people during each visit. all in all, delicious food and feel to the people in a small town.

Great food. best French toast with celestial sauce ever. and the side of the kartoffeln yum!
