This being chicken farming country, the chicken menu is highly recommended, but everything is tasty at a very reasonable price. Soups, salads and desserts certainly didn't disappoint on this visit. On the previous visit, quail and seafood dishes were both very flavoursome. The service was also very friendly. Be aware that no English menus are available.
If you are in the Wohlen/Zurich vicinity, if you have the time to sample some first class fine dining in a country village setting, then please make the effort to visit this wonderful gem. The building was once a large cow shed, which has been tastefully kept as much in tact as possible with the original cow trough still, there aspart of the decor. There areas an abundance of pictures all depicting chickens which appears to be their speciality. White artisan paper mâché chickens are placed around the restaurant and bring a smile to your face. My husband and I both started with hot Celery and Lemon soup, which was delicious and served with a sample of their smoked trout, which tasted divine. My husband then upped for loin of venison with potatoes and a selection of green vegetables. I managed to secure a taster, and the venison was as soft as butter, just lovely. I opted for the scallops and garlic prawns in a seafood foam, served with an accompaniment of basmati rice, stunning to look at and delicious. Dessert was the perfect end to a perfect meal. My husband chose a warm chocolate fondant served with finely cut fresh mango slices and raspberry coulis. I had strawberries and raspberries in a coulis served with home made creme fraiche parfait with a rhubarb sorbet stripe. Our host paid for our meal, which clearly wasn't cheap, but having said that, we both agreed we would definitely dine there again on our next visit. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Barbara and Bernhardt Buhlmann who run this first class eaterie.
Above average food but subpar service. I found the restaurant in Michelin guide but it’s really not worthy. In Aargau there are many good alternatives which offer the same style of food but with butter services. If you are not naive Swiss German speaker, don’t go! The waitress can be quit bit**y towards non natives and her attitude is very questionable. Try to avoid it the best you can. And I seriously suggest this restaurant to be removed from the Michelin guide!
This restaurant that has long been well known for chicken specialities has much more to offer, a great variety of very good dishes indeed. An interesting wine list and an excellent and friendly service added all up to a much licked lunch experience.
The decor is lovely and fun. The lyrics have a nice selection for brunch, the service was rather dour. Expect to be stared at: I'm guessing only people from the area visit and from their behavior, both the employees and the other guests, they would like to keep it that way. The price is adequate, still compared to some brunches offered in the city, a bit more expensive.
