My beer came out frosty and had a crisp, citrus like taste. Loved it. The food is fresh, cooked to order and delish. The onion soup is terrific, and their risotto is an unexpected delight. Definitely try this restaurant. Casual atmosphere; but the chef is amazingly good. His fried foods are golden, crisp and never greasy. Well worth it. The owner is terrific welcoming and friendly. Our waiter was well informed about every item on the menu, and very helpful. My burger was cooked perfectly; my husband's prime rib was dead on rare, just how he loves it and it was a work of art. Our friends had the cod and risotto no empty plates here! We just moved up here, and this Taphouse is on our go to list.
I've heard mixed reviews about this place, so my spouse and I decided to stop in for some dinner this weekend. I will also preface my review with the fact that I have worked in high end Food Bev establishments for the better part of the last decade. Let me start with just the music playing in the bar. It was a serious 2000s throwback, way too loud, and frankly inappropriate during dining hours; we arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday. We sat in the dining room considering the stares we got from the motley crew sitting at the bar. Even though this place has been redone since the Ye Old Lantern days, it is still quite outdated, dark, and unwelcoming. The waitress introduced herself and was pleasant. Our beers were ok; we had the simple Allagash White, which was *almost* ice cold. The best part of the visit was the complimentary, fresh potato chips. I assume this is a gesture in lieu of bread, which is OK with us. We proceeded to order the Fish Chips and a burger (medium rare) with cheddar, bbq sauce, and onion rings. The Fish Chips were undercooked. The batter closest to the fish was still raw, making all of the fish pretty soggy. Fries were OK and tasted a bit like they had been under a heat lamp a bit too long; not as crispy as they should be coming straight from a fryer. This entree did come with a house salad, which was OK, but did take 30 minutes to arrive. Now, the burger.....Definitely not a $14 burger. The patty was very thin. Presentation was nice. Burger was cooked to medium, when we asked for Medium Rare. It was pretty tasteless overall, which is hard when slathered in BBQ sauce. Our food took about an hour when there were only 3 other tables of customers in the dining room. I was hoping for better things for this restaurant, since we are local and enjoy supporting local businesses, but we probably won't go back.
Very simple: Food is absolutely amazing and fairly priced Fantastic Kids options and again so fairly priced! Thursday night is a crazy seafood fest with amazing prices and fish the owner gets from the fish market himself! happy hour is a must! 5 apps and 3 beers!!! The calamari with hot peppers is off the hook! beer selection is second to none and again so fairly priced treat you like family Spread the word honestly a great local place. Regulars for sure : thanks for always giving us a terrific experience !!!
I thought I'd give this place another shot, because we were in an American food kind of mood. It was a terrible mistake. We walk in, take a look at the menu and decide to give it a shot. We get seated down at a table with two chairs that are facing a wall. A crooked wall. Like a giant pile of stones leaning toward us like it's going to topple over. Did I mention the place was empty? I order a coke, she orders a beer. The beer comes out completely flat. And no, it is not a naturally flat beer, but a beer with no carbonation. I try to appeal to the waitress that it's bad, and she tries to defend that the beers are all super fresh, and are always being replaced, and how they don't have head on them, took a bit of actual arguing to get a replacement, The replacement had some sketchy looking strands of what must have been mold in it. Great. Gina strikes again. She didn't write the order down, and I ended up getting chipotle mayo instead of chimmi-churri on my burger. It also came out well done instead of medium rare. Maybe that part isn't her fault, but she had a horrible attitude, like she was purposely trying to drive us out. I guess my previous review wasn't generous enough? Unredeemable failure, you made my girlfriend really really upset, and you need to get your act together. Also don't have your employees giving you reviews, that's not allowed on yelp. Jim H is one of the bartenders, disregard his review. By the way. [hidden link] You changed your name so you could make a new yelp page? Can't hide the truth.
